European Parliament resolution on the EU-US Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP)
Grupa Azoty welcomes the resolution passed by the European Parliament during its plenary session held in Strasbourg on July 8th 2015, which contains recommendations to the European Commission regarding the EU-US transatlantic trade and investment partnership.

As the EU’s major fertilizer manufacturer and a leading producer of chemicals in Europe, competing with importers from outside the EU and selling its products on global markets, Grupa Azoty is actively engaged in the process of shaping the European trade policy.

“Globalisation of international trade and production processes is inevitable in the modern world, therefore we strongly support reasonable economic integration with the US, which in the long run may prove beneficial for producers and consumers alike and whose positive impact may extend beyond the economy,” emphasised Paweł Jarczewski, Grupa Azoty CEO.

However, the company is of the opinion that the European energy-intensive industry sector must be safeguarded by providing transition periods on the elimination of tariffs, given a major competitive advantage of US industry stemming from much cheaper prices of energy, including gas and electricity, and lower regulatory costs. It is also important for Europe to secure the possibility of re-imposing duties in case US imports grow at a rapid pace, as well as to secure free flow of energy resources from the US to the EU (including LNG), and to ensure access to cheap US resources and energy. Thus, the European Union will benefit from the agreement, while protecting its own industry. This is particularly important to Grupa Azoty, given its large investments in expanding production capacities and creating new jobs in Poland.Today’s resolution of the European Parliament meets the priorities of the European chemicals industry. Grupa Azoty appreciates the efforts of the Polish Members of the European Parliament who have been actively making efforts to protect the interests of Polish manufacturers. The company will continue to work with the EU institutions to ensure that the TTIP resolution serves the best interests of the Polish chemical industry.
